Brother Roger was constant in his message that to achieve the unity of Christians it is not only necessary to search and work together, but to pray together.A prayer service to open the Annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity takes place on Friday 18th January 2008 at 8p.m. This year, it is being hosted in St Mary's, Pro-Cathedral, Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 and many of Dublin's Christian leaders will be present.
The organizing committee decided that, in the light of Br Alois' forthcoming visit, it would be appropriate to draw upon the chants of Taizé for the music for this important annual event, given their ecumenical nature. Many of you may have been present in the Pro-Cathedral for the wonderful memorial service in memory of Brother Roger a month after his passing.
A rehearsal to familiarise ourselves with the Taizé chants being sung at this special event is planned for Tuesday evening 15th January at 8pm in St Kevin's Oratory, Thomas Lane (turning off O'Connell Street at Burger King down Cathedral Street, take the first left into the laneway. The doorway into St Kevin's Oratory is approximately 150 yards down on your right).
We will have two music leaders to teach us the harmonies to help us offer something beautiful to God as we sing. All you altos, sopranos, basses and tenors are most welcome!
We envisage several Taizé events and music preparations in the weeks ahead. Two 'Permanents', volunteers from Taizé, Johannes and Samuel, arrive here the weekend of the 12th and stay until 28th January to meet with young people in schools, universities and parishes to invite them to the prayer in April.
To facilitate our planning, would you be so kind as to let us know the following?
1. Whether you are able to attend the choir practice on Tuesday 15th January at 8pm?
2. Whether you are able to attend the Ecumenical prayer service on Friday 18th January at 8pm?
3. If you would like to welcome Johannes and Samuel to speak with young people in your group/school/parish?
4. Whether you may be able to offer accommodation to groups of young people travelling from other parts of Ireland to Dublin for the prayer with Brother Alois?
5. If you would prefer not to receive any further information from us, we will of course respect your wishes.
